WHETHER its at a local coffee shop, or from the boot of his car, Ward 31 Councillor Chris Pappas is making sure he is getting work done, despite not having a designated office to work from.
Having won the ward in the local government elections seven months ago, Pappas is still waiting for the city to allocate him an office, making it difficult he says, to provide the quality services he would like to.
“My previous office was locked because the municipality failed to ensure all the necessary documents were signed for payment of the rent for the office,” he said.
Pappas said he had since put through a suggestion of an alternative office but the city’s Real Estate department had been forced to close because the building it occupied was undergoing emergency repair work.
He said not only was the city failing to pay rent on offices for councillors, but councillors were also being told no funds were available in the budget to assist with community participation and public awareness initiatives.
“Along with no stationery, furniture and other essential equipment such as printers, we struggle to perform our duties to the best of our abilities,” he said.
