Birthday cake for hospital patient

A patient at Netcare St Augustine's was treated by nurses on her birthday.

A PATIENT at Netcare St Augustine's Hospital, Mrs MA Wright, recently turned 78 years old and was treated to a surprise party by nursing staff.

Adele Hoosen from St Augustine's said Mrs Wright had been tearful on the day because she was missing her daughter who lived in Mauritius and her son who lives in Port Elizabeth.

“Her daughter couriered flowers to her which made her cry, so our cardio thoracic staff decided to cheer her up with a birthday cake from our kitchen,” said Adele.

Vanessa Pillay, unit manager at the cardio thoracic ward spoke to the kitchen supervisor and arranged a small cake for the patient.

“She was overjoyed as they sang for her. All the ladies in the room were given a piece of birthday cake and enjoyed it!” said Adele.
