Hospital opens upgraded wards
The wards were officially launched on Thursday, 7 December.
THE first major renovations to Life Entabeni Hospital have been completed resulting in two new, state-of-the-art wards which will house orthopaedic patients and children.
According to Lara Richards, marketing and communications coordinator at Life Entabeni, the old orthopaedic ward in the hospital was originally built in the 1930s and as with historically older hospitals, the wards had communal bathrooms.
“This new ward, called Cooper 2, is a massive upgrade, and there is now a new design, with en-suite bathrooms in each room,” she said.
Lara said the new ward included two isolation rooms, a private ward as well as three and two bed rooms and one four bed room.

She said the old paediatric ward was also part of the original building and only had 10 beds, however the new ward has been upgraded to 20 beds.
“There is a parents’ lounge, kitchen and bathroom to ensure the parents’ stay in the ward is comfortable. There is also a new temperature controlled infants’ bathroom where babies can be bathed in a large sink-type bath, which is easier for parents who have had to lean over a large bath to wash their small babies in the past,” she said.
The ward has 10 beds and 10 cot beds for children, a treatment room as well as a playroom for the children.
The wards were officially opened on Thursday, 7 December.
