CBD waste collection resumes after staff down tools

WASTE collection in some parts of the Durban CBD which were  interrupted after staff at the city’s Expanded Public Work Programme downed tools on Friday, 5 January, demanding full-time employment, will be resumed this evening, Monday, 8 January.

In a media statement released this week, the municipality said workers had embarked on strike action demanding full time employment. City officials worked around the clock to resolve the situation and reach an agreement with the striking staff.  The staff members will  ensure that the backlog is completed by tomorrow and normal waste collection patterns resume.
The municipality extended its thanks to residents for their patience during the strike.
