Anti big bang protesters gather in Durban
The event is intended to highlight the issues around wide-spread loud fireworks, particularly the drastic affect on sensitive people and animals.
BAN The Bang KZN will gather from 10am to 12pm on Saturday, 3 February at Suncoast Pirates Lifesaving Club on the Durban beachfront to demonstrate against loud explosive fireworks.
The event is intended to highlight the issues around widespread loud fireworks, particularly the drastic affect on sensitive people and animals.
“It is the culmination of a lot of effort from animal rescue groups and firework ban initiatives. We have nearly 6000 supporters in the group and we are expecting a good turn out,” said Jill Murraybrown.

A petition will be presented by Judy van der Westhuizen from Khetani Animal Rescue who is the chairperson of the demonstration.
Invited speakers include Logie Naidoo, Jan Esterhuizen, IFP councillor, environmnent Desmond D’Sa, Niki Moore from Cats of Durban, Andrew Parkins from Skyblast Pyrotechnics, Dr Lisa Penzhorn, Steve Smit and Carol Booth from Monkey Helpline, SPCA Durban, Steve Fataar, Graham Boyle, Msizi James from 5fm, Pinkie Mtjali, Neeri Naidoo from PACT and Thomas Nicholson.
