A GLENWOOD pensioner is singing the praises of the Bulwer Ambassadors after the arrest of a man who stole her cellphone on Friday 21 September.
Cindy Wesselman said she was sitting in her car checking messages on her phone while her husband was in a shop on Helen Joseph Road, when a man snatched the phone out of her hands and ran off.
“I was stupid to be sitting with the window open, but you tend to trust everyone! I was taken by surprise and was very upset by what happened. I jumped out of my car but the man ran away. One of the Ambassadors, Wesley, told me another Ambassador had run after the man while he stayed to calm me down,” she explained.
Speaking about the incident, Ambassador Bongani Dlamini said he was working in the road when he noticed a man running fast down the road. He then saw Cindy, who was very distressed, and realised something had happened.

“I ran after him and caught him near Brand and Ferguson Roads. I asked him why he was running and he told me that he had taken the cellphone. I said he must go back and give Cindy her phone,” he said.
Heather Rorick from the Bulwer Community Improvement Project said Bongani took the man, who she said seemed very ‘spaced out’, to Cindy who positively identified him. Her phone was returned and SAPS were called to the scene.
“The police arrived quickly and I accompanied her to the police station where she opened a case,” said Heather.
Cindy said she was very grateful to Bongani and pleased her cellphone was returned. “These guys are fantastic and do a great job. They really go above and behond the line of duty.”
