
TWO men were shot and two others arrested by police in a shootout in the Durban CBD during the early hours of Saturday morning.
According to police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele, officers were alerted to a group of armed men who were breaking into businesses on Anton Lembede (Smith) Street with the aim of bombing ATMs.
Shortly after midnight officers approached the group and exchanged gunfire, killing two of the suspects in the process.

Two men who were sitting in what is believed to have been a getaway vehicle, were arrested.
Police recovered a rifle, a pistol and housebreaking implements.
The men face charges of attempted murder, burglary at business premises, possession of housebreaking implements and possession of unlicensed firearms.
They are due to appear in Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
No police officers were injured in the shooting. Police are still searching for the other suspects who fled.
