From sweet vendor to author

A young author details his journey in his debut book.

FROM selling sweets and chips in high school to becoming an author at the age of 17, Fanelesibonge Ndlovu is a self-driven young man who believes that anything is possible. His never-say-die attitude has seen him being accepted to an entrepreneurship programme in the U.S called Trepcamp.

Ndlovu was chosen out of a pool of more than 30000 applicants around the world and will enrol at Stanford University, one of the top five universities in the world.

“Trepcamp is a three-week Entrepreneurship Programme. Currently my challenge is that I do not have funding. I am appealing to anyone who can sponsor me or buy a copy of my book, to help better my chances of going overseas. Their support will highly be appreciated,” he said.

TrepCamp was founded in 2013 as part of the Mexico-U.S. Entrepreneurship and Innovation Council (MUSEIC), with the main focus of preparing aspiring entrepreneurs to acquire the right competencies as they embark on their entrepreneurial journey.

The program uses a unique methodology based in the Entrepreneurial Competencies Model™, which is the methodological heart of TrepCamp. Since 2013 TrepCamp has trained more than 13,500 college students and more than 800 students in the advanced program in the main innovation ecosystems in the US, with the clear objective to help talented people to develop their potential as high-impact entrepreneurs.

Ndlovu defines himself as an inspired young man who was born to change and enhance people’s lives. He was born in KwaNoshungu (Mtunzini, North KZN) but grew up in Durban and says he dreamt of becoming a writer from a young age, a dream he realised last year when he released his book.

“I am inspired by God and the potential of every human being. My background and where I was born made me want to improve and change people’s lives. The reason I wrote the book is that I saw many people suffering, lacking, living the lives they don’t want. I asked myself why people were lacking when we are made in God’s image.”

“This led to me to name my book God lacks nothing. Why Do You Lack? Most people do not following God’s principles which are there in the Bible. I have also discovered that successful people follow these principles consciously or unconsciously. Through this book I want to share those principles in the Bible. For instance there is a principle in the Bible that says you must think big of yourself, But it is asserted like this: ‘As a man thinks so he is’- Proverbs 23 verse 7. In summary this book is about Bible principles that people need to follow in order for them to be successful,” he said.

“When I wrote the book, I didn’t know anything about publishing. It was a challenge getting a publisher. After hunting for a publisher, I found a a gentlemen who played me and took my money without doing his job properly. This led to the delay of the book being released. The book was supposed to be released in 2016 because I wrote it in 2015 when I was doing my Grade 11. Last year I took charge of my work and self-published the book,” said Ndlovu.

The book sells for R180 and for those interested in purchasing it, they can contact Fanelesibonge Ndlovu on 0814921061. The book will be in stores soon.
