Park has been neglected, says resident
The neglected park in Charles Henwood Avenue has besides rats, a bee-hive as well.
EDITOR – I am responding to the article in Berea Mail, Local parks under threat, regarding the use of the park in Charles Henwood Avenue for storage by contractors building at Capital Hospital. I picked up this news today and find that the “promise” made by Vaneshree Moodley is rather far fetched.
The state of this park has been in this condition for close to a year already. What she has not disclosed is that the hospital has registered a servitude along the boundary of Greenpark fence behind the boundary of Sports and Recreation all the way to the hospital. This is a major operation which will take close to six months to a year to complete due to the fact that it will be a heavy transport thoroughfare.

The neglected park has besides rats, a bee-hive as well. I personally visited the manager of parks in Mitchell Park after several phone calls which their office never answers.

I was informed by Mr Garth Kloppenborg that the servitude was in the process of being registered. This was November 2018.
The ward councillor never informed residents of the proposed construction until the foundation was passed.
The management of this site, from a health point of view, has been disregarded considering it is an extension of a hospital. The windows of the health department opens into the polutted space.
I also addressed this matter with Mr Hamilton from the Health Department whose window overlooks the rubble in the park and as usual promises were given to address the rodents.
