Exciting opportunity for Durban muralist
Jono Hornby, has won a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with L7 Craft Beer Brewery.
RIDING on the wave of the third International Public Art Festival (IPAF), which took place in Cape Town; Durban muralist and freelance illustrator, Jono Hornby, has won a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with L7 Craft Beer Brewery. The prize includes a trip to Marsinne, Belgium, where Hornby will hand-craft his own batch of L7 beer as well as name and design the label. Hornby was one of many local and international artists that participated in the annual International Public Arts Festival.

On the last day of the festival, a public voting system was opened through IPAF’s social media platforms, showcasing a gallery of all the street art murals. Hornby’s 15m high mural of his subject, Noms Zondi, received three times more votes than any of the other featured artworks. He travels to Belguim on 4 April to meet with brew master Nicolas Declercq. The two will spend their time creating a special recipe for a limited edition L7 beer, of which 6000 bottles will be produced.
When asked about winning his prize, Hornby said: “I am very excited about this adventure. I was planning on traveling and painting in Europe this year, so the prize is an awesome extension of that. I’ve never been to Belgium. I’ve always wanted to though as my grandparents are from Belgium and there’s a whole side to my family that I’ve never met before.”
