WARD 33 councillor Mmabatho Tembe has demanded immediate action to address sewage which is pumping out of a manhole at the intersection of Helen Joseph and Cato Roads.
Councillor Tembe said this issue was reported by residents about three weeks ago during the strike in the city.
“A reference number was generated and I escalated the issue first to the managers of water and sanitation and then to the Deputy City Manager and now to the City Manager. It’s become worse than ever and has not been attended to or even cleaned up,” she said.

Councillor Tembe said not only was this an eyesore, with obvious signs of faeces and toilet paper spilling onto the road, but also a major health hazard.
“Residents are completely frustrated and so am I that the municipality is not sending contractors to fix this. We need this done now,” said Tembe.
