Group takes on Ironman Durban in memory of friend

ON Saturday, 2 June, a group of over 30 friends will tackle the Ironman 70.3 Durban in memory and celebration of the life of their friend Matthew MacDonald.
Even in the midst of his battle with leukaemia he inspired many and left behind a group of friends and family who are still in awe of a young man who lived an incredible life.
Matthew lost the battle with leukaemia a year ago, at the young age of 31.
His friends aim to honour his legacy, raise awareness about blood cancer and raise funds for The Sunflower Fund by taking part in the sporting event.

Macy, as he is fondly remembered, was a man who lived life to the fullest and who touched many lives along the way.
“Having completed a number of 70.3 triathlons himself, we felt that this was a fitting way for us as a group to honour his legacy. We have adeptly named this initiative IronMac and are calling on our networks of friends and family to “Back your Boytie” by making a donation in Mac’s memory and supporting an athlete from our group as we all endeavour to raise funds,” said Adam Turk.
