Numeric maths olympiad competition for KZN

NUMERIC, a maths education NGO whose mission is to help young South Africans excel in mathematics and to train well-equipped and passionate teachers, will its annual Numeric Maths Olympiad in KZN at the UKZN Edgewood Campus at the weekend.

Founded in 2011, Numeric runs high-impact after-school mathematics programmes for primary school learners. It recently launched its KwaZulu-Natal branch in Pinetown earlier this year, in partnership with the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

All 300 learners who currently participated in the Numeric programme will write the test on 14 September and results will be announced at the end of the year during the annual prize giving

ceremony. Numeric Chief Program Manager in Durban, Luvuyo Notshokovu, said: “I’m very excited to have all of the children from different places in Durban together on a university campus. This is a great opportunity for them to have a feel for university and to write an external paper to see their potential beyond classroom content.”
