Theatre club holds auditions

Auditions are at Westville Theatre Club on Saturday, 21 September at 9am and Sunday, 22 September at 4pm.

WESTVILLE Theatre Club has announced auditions for its year-end show The Monster Mash, a fun family show taking a magical trip through the monster world in an hilarious Halloween adventure.

Auditions are at the clubhouse adjacent to Westville Swimming Pool (6 St James Avenue) on Saturday, 21 September at 9am and Sunday, 22 September at 4pm. Call backs will be held on Monday, 23 September at 6pm. Auditions start with a briefing of the play so it is vital to be there before starting time.

The Monster Mash, written by Durban-born artist, Sanele Sibiya, will be directed by Iona Joshua of Durban Actors Studio.

Musical direction will be headed up by Shawn O’Neill who, as well as being Chairman of the Westville Theatre Club, is also an experienced musician.

If you want to be part of bringing this incredible story to life, Iona and Shawn are looking for singers, actors, dancers, musicians, lighting and sound technicians, backstage hands, and front of house. Singers need to prepare a song and are to take a backing track on a USB drive, an instrument, or practice acapella style.

Actors need to prepare a one-minute monologue, dancers need to prepare a one-minute routine and musicians need to prepare a one-minute performance that showcases instrumental ability. Take your own instruments.

People aged 16 years and older are invited to audition.

People interested in getting involved with lighting and sound, as backstage hands or front of house, can contact Iona directly on iona1323@gmail.com or 083 961 8820 (WhatsApp only).

The show will be staged at the Club from 11 to 15 and 18 to 21 December.
