Umbilo SAPS made arrests for various crimes this week.

Illegal firearm possession

A MAN was arrested after being found in illegal possession of a firearm in Umbilo Road on 9 November.

According to Capt Pumzile Makaula from Umbilo SAPS, at around 8pm, the Provincial Task Team and Umbilo SAPS Crime Prevention Unit conducted a stop and search in Umbilo Road.

“It is alleged that they stopped and searched a 29-year-old man and found him in possession of a 9mm unlicensed pistol with one live round of ammunition,” said Makaula.

She said it is alleged that the firearm was linked to an owner in Rustenburg. “Police are investing a case of unlawful possession of a firearm,” she said.

The gun recovered in the stop and search on 9 November.

Business robbery investigated

ON 10 November at about 10.40am, it is alleged that four men entered a Cell C store in Berea Centre on King Dinizulu Road.

“It is alleged that they pointed firearms at staff and demanded cash and cellphones. They got away with 10 cellphones, two routers and an undisclosed amount of money,” said Makuala. Police are investigating a case of business robbery.

Armed robbers arrested

THREE men were arrested following a business robbery at Umpire Lodge on Umbilo Road on 8 November.

Makaula said at around 9pm five men, two armed with firearms, robbed the bar of liquor and cash, and patrons of cash and cellphones.

“Umbilo Crime Prevention and the Provincial Task Team chased the suspects. Three men were arrested in a taxi. Two pistols, 16 rounds of ammunition and five cellphones were recovered,” she said.
