UMBILO SAPS hosted an event at the cerebral palsy unit at KZN Care Association to mark 16 Days of Activism against the abuse of women and children.
Speaking at the event, Capt Pumzile Makaula told staff and children that during her time with the police, she had realised that SAPS were there not only to fight crime, but to educate and help citizens, and that the 16 Days was a time when awareness was key.
Over the past two weeks, social crime prevention’s W/O Akish Budaarienarain, together with W/O Nosipho Mthembu, Sgt Rakesh Mahabeer from Umbilo SAPS, and Lt Col Ntombeziningi Ndima and Const Zanele Khomo from eThekwini Central Cluster, visited the home to see what the needs were, and gathered donations for the home as well as goodie bag items for the children.

Lt Col Stanley Perumall said as this was the festive season, they were happy to make the time to visit and celebrate with staff and the children.
“We thank the staff for working tirelessly with the children. It is a difficult task and we wanted to support them in this small way. I thank everyone involved in organising and getting sponsors so we could treat the staff and children during the time of giving,” he said.
Lt Col Ndima said she thanked God for the caregivers at the home who showed patience and love when caring for the children.
“We also want to show our love and share with the people taking care of these angels of God,” she said.
