Suspects arrested in stolen vehicle in Durban

The arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate's Court on 8 January.

FOLLOWING a lengthy pursuit by Durban police, two men were arrested in a stolen vehicle on 6 January.

According to Capt Muzi Maphumulo from Durban Central SAPS, it is alleged that on Wednesday at around 8pm, the Durban Central members reacted to information about a stolen vehicle, a Toyota Quantum, that was being chased from Chatsworth, and which was headed towards Durban.

“The Durban Central members spotted a vehicle fitting the description travelling along Sandile Thusi (Argyle) Road, and joining Umgeni Road. The members chased it and managed to stop it along Umgeni Road,” he said.

Maphumulo said two suspects were found inside the vehicle which had been stolen an hour before from a Chatsworth taxi rank.

“The arrested suspects, aged between 18 and 20, are expected to appear in Durban Magistrate’s Court for a case of possession of stolen property tomorrow (8 January). The suspects will also be linked to a case of theft of motor vehicle,” he said.
