Durban cellphone thief stabs Good Samaritan

The man is expected to appear in Durban Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of robbery and GBH.

A MAN is due to appear in court on Monday, 15 February, following his arrest for common robbery and assault.

According to Capt Muzi Maphumulo from Durban Central SAPS, it is alleged that on 11 February at about  9.30pm, a metered taxi driver was waiting for a client along Anton Lembede Street in Durban.

“The man was talking on the cellphone when suddenly a man snatched it and ran away. The man chased the suspect, however, he threw the cellphone to an accomplice who ran away with it,” said Maphumulo.

Maphumulo said a community member was stabbed by the suspect while trying to assist.

“Durban Central Police responded and arrested the knife-wielding suspect, and also recovered the knife. The injured community member was taken to Addington Hospital for medical attention and was in a stable condition,” he said.

The man is expected to appear in Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday for charges of robbery and grievous bodily harm (GBH).
