Mayville woman fatally shot, boyfriend to remain in custody
It is believed the man shot and killed his girlfriend after she served him with a protection order.
A 30-year-old man, who was arrested and charged for his girlfriend’s murder, appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court yesterday, 5 July.
The suspect was arrested last week following the murder which took place in February this year in the Cato Crest area, in Mayville..
According to Captain Christopher Sibiya, from the Cato Manor SAPS communications office, the arrest was made following investigations conducted by Cato Manor detectives.

Sibiya said the 30-year-old man is believed to have shot and killed his 21-year-old girlfriend, whose name is known to the Berea Mail, after she served him with a protection order.
“It is alleged that a 30-year-old man shot and killed his girlfriend (21) after she served him with a protection order.
“She died on the scene after she was shot five times in her upper body. The suspect fled from the scene on the same day to Avoca. He was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm silver pistol with a filed serial number and ammunition (38 rounds),” he said.
The suspect faces three charges: count 1 for murder, count 2 for possession of an unlicensed firearm, and count 3 for possession of ammunition of 38 rounds.
The man was remanded back to police custody for a legal aid application. He will appear in court again week.
