SAPS nab robbery suspects with stolen state firearm
There were no shots fired during the arrest, however, two vehicles were damaged during the struggle.
ON the weekend, police arrested two suspects in the Durban CBD for business robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Captain Muzi Maphumulo, spokesperson for Durban Central SAPS, confirmed that there were no shots fired and no injuries reported during the arrest, however, two vehicles were damaged during the struggle.
According to Maphumulo, three suspects were involved in the robbery, and police are still searching for the third suspect. One of the suspects was linked to the robbery of a state firearm that took place in Bergville.

The arrest was made after members of the Durban Central SAPS held an observation operation near Bertha Mkhize (Victoria) Street bus terminal on Saturday, July 2.
“The team was following on the information of suspects who robbed a business in Durban on Wednesday, May 29. Information was received through provincial crime intelligence that two of the suspects involved in the recent robbery were in the Durban CBD,” said Maphumulo.

The first target was identified along Victoria Street and confirmed to be in possession of an illegal firearm at about 12:00.
“The members closed down on him on Bertha Mkhize (Victoria) Street and searched him. The 9mm Cz83 with nine live ammunition was found in his possession,” said Maphumulo.
A second suspect was found at approximately 14:00 on Sunday, July 3 near a bus terminal along Victoria Street in Durban.
“A takedown was executed within the terminus, and the target was intercepted and disarmed of a state firearm, Beretta 9mm pistol with eight live rounds of ammunition,” said Maphumulo.
The arrested suspects, aged 27 and 44, are expected to appear before the Durban Magistrate’s court on Monday.
