City urges public to follow safety precautions at beaches and swimming pools

The City urges the public to adhere to the advice and instructions of the lifeguards and law enforcement officers.

THE eThekwini Municipality has issued a statement urging the public to adhere to beach regulations and the commands of the lifeguards and law enforcement.

“With locals and visitors in the city still making daily visits to beaches and swimming pools for leisure, we would like to caution them to heed the instructions and commands of the lifeguards and law enforcement. This is to prevent accidents and drowning incidents and for everyone to have a pleasant and safe holiday.”

The City further issued tips for the public to follow to stay safe around large bodies of water.

Safety tips for beaches and swimming pools

  1. Listen to the lifeguards.
  2. Do not swim under the influence.
  3. Swim in designated areas.
  4. Swim between the red and yellow flags.
  5. Make sure lifeguards can see you.
  6. Always swim around people.
  7. Alert the lifeguards if you see someone drowning or any suspicious/concerning behaviour.
