Multiple injuries at Albany Hotel fire

Several ambulance services and the eThekwini Fire Department are treating multiple patients at the scene for smoke inhalation.

JUST after 10:00 this morning (January 6), Advanced Life Support (ALS) Paramedics received reports of a fire in the Albany Hotel on Smith Street.

Currently, on the scene, the ALS paramedics, the eThekwini Fire Department and other ambulance services are treating multiple patients for smoke inhalation.

According to Garrith Jamieson, spokesperson for ALS paramedics, “ALS Paramedics Medical Services arrived on the scene to find the eThekweni Fire Department busy fighting the blaze. A quick triage system was set up, and multiple people were treated for smoke inhalation on the scene. Two people from the hotel were stabilised on the scene by Advanced Life Support Paramedics before being transported to hospital for further treatment.”

At this stage, the events leading up to the fire are unknown, however, SAPS, together with the eThekweni Fire Department, are at the scene and will be investigating further.
