First golf day for South African National Council on Alcohol and Drug Dependence

SANCA are ready to host their first golf day fundraiser on Friday, March 15, at the Royal Durban Golf Club, to raise funds for the institution’s community programmes.

SOUTH African National Council on Alcohol and Drug Dependence (SANCA) are set to host their first golf day fundraiser on Friday, March 15, at the Royal Durban Golf Club, aimed at raising funds for the institution’s community programmes.

SANCA is the nation’s largest non-profit organisation dedicated to the prevention and treatment of substance-use disorders, with over 100 service points and 31 SANCA treatment centres, 12 of which are inpatient treatment centres, and 19 outpatient treatment centres which provide affordable treatment, prevention and training services.

SANCA director Fathima Hussain said this golf day will enable them to incorporate more community programmes to give back. “The fundraising event will enable us to keep the institution running but also to have more means to give back to the community,” said Hussain.

The organisation says that although they receive some incentive from the government like any other NGO, it is never enough to run such a big institution. “A lot of work has been put into making this institution what it is today. It is not easy running it, and we need all types of assistance to keep it running at its current standards,” said Hussain.
