Authorities raid crime hub in North Beach dunes

The North Beach community has praised the Durban Metro for a clean-up operation along the beachfront promenade where bushy areas along the dunes and lagoon had become a hideout for alleged criminals and drug addicts who preyed on unsuspecting victims.

BEACHGOERS and the North Beach community have hailed an operation by the Durban Metro to remove makeshift shacks and storage spots believed to be harbouring criminals.

Residents, runners, cyclists and strollers along the beachfront had become fearful of enjoying the facilities on the promenade.

According to Durban Metro spokesperson, Colonel Boysie Zungu, Tuesday’s clean-up operation was conducted together with the DG Security company, the Parks Department, and beach cleaners.

“We were removing people from the shacks on the dunes along the beach as we have been receiving regular complaints from the cyclists and municipality workers, especially on Laguna Beach, saying that they had been robbed by criminals who escape into the same bushes. The operation was successful and we urge wildlife / Ezemvelo to intervene as well,” said Zungu.
