Night market lights up Florida Road

Florida Road Night Market is up and running, supporting local small businesses on the first Thursday of every month.

THE inaugural Florida Road Night Market was hailed as a success by the organisers, the Florida Road Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP), and vendors who benefitted from the crowds that walked through the market on Thursday, March 6.

“For the first market, the turnout was absolutely wonderful. As the Florida Road UIP we are very happy with what we saw,” said Florida Road UIP precinct manager, Vanessa Knight. She said the mood and the vibe of the market were perfect for the warm night with a live band providing the background music to the event.

“The products were just divine. We love supporting local and uplifting people who are small entrepreneurs. The next market is going to be even bigger and better. We can only improve from here on out, it’s a great initiative and good way of getting the community out, to socialise and buy local,” said Knight.

The crowds of shoppers and vendors were entertained by a live band, The Name on the Drum. Brothers, Ben and Nat Bruzas, performed a variety of music as well as their own songs. Michelle Connor, who “passed through” the market, said she was happy with the atmosphere of the market and the products that were on sale.

“I had to come out and see for myself what the market was all about. There’s good variety of products on sale and the live band is a nice touch,” said Connor. “It’s good that we are now getting more family friendly events on Florida Road. We need more of such because the area has residents and businesses who can benefit from this kind of thing.”

To be part of the market which is held every first Thursday of every month at Gordon Road Park, from 16:00 to 20:00, reach out to the organisers on social media via the Florida Road Night Market on Facebook. The next market is on April 3.
