Port Natal learner elected circuit RCL chairperson
Port Natal RCL chairperson, Tshidi Motjolwane, is flying the school flag high following her election into the same leadership role for Ethusini Schools Circuit.

BEING a good leader and an excellent representative for her peers is a task that Tshidi Motjolwane takes very seriously as she steps into the role of Ethusini Schools Circuit RCL (Representative Council of Learners) chairperson, following her election into the position in February.
The Grade 12 learner at Port Natal School in Umbilo was elected as circuit chairperson on February 20 after a moving presentation on why she was suited for the role. Motjolwane’s eloquence and conviction was able to convince her peers who then nominated and voted her in as their chosen representative. She said, “I was humbled and honoured by election into the role of chairperson. I appreciate the trust placed in me and will serve my fellow learners with pride.”
As she assumes office, Motjolwane’s main duties include inspiring and motivating learners to perform at their full potential while leading by example. “I have also been tasked with building and maintaining relationships between the learners and the circuit. The role also entails being a problem-solver by opening communication which is the key to our success. It’s a huge responsibility, one that I carry with pride,” said Motjolwane.

Although in the final year of her high school career, Motjolwane is trusted by her peers to represent them and be an excellent leader. Apart from her leadership role within the circuit, Motjolwane is also the chairperson of the RCLs at Port Natal School, chairperson of the ATKV team that plans events at the school and is also part of the inter-school debating team.
“I have never found multitasking as a hassle, during school hours I focus on my studies and if any trouble comes my way during that time, I solve it during breaks or after school when a meeting would take place. Being in the RCL has taught me a lot and I am enjoying it,” said Motjolwane.
With aspiration of advocating for justice, Motjolwane wants to go into criminal or political law, one day becoming a judge. Her skills as an RCL chairperson will be the foundation that propels her towards her desired career. She advocated for all schools to have student representatives. “It is incredibly crucial to have RCLs in schools because the youth of today has incredible skills when it comes to solving problems and they understand their peers more than our educators do,” said Motjolwane.
Following her successful election as Ethusini Schools Circuit RCL chairperson, Motjolwane was congratulated by the school. The school principal, Mr Dennis Beukes, said, “The election of our RCL chairperson, Tshidi Motjolwane, as the chairperson of the Ethusini Schools Circuit RCL bears testimony to the exemplary, visionary young leaders that we nurture at Porties by creating a holistic environment that stimulates personal growth and social cohesion within a very dynamic, diverse set-up. We know Tshidi will go from strength to strength in leading the circuit leadership cohort on this new journey to achieve all the exciting and progressive goals they set. We wish her well on this new endeavour and stand behind her all the way.”
