Iftar in the Park celebrates kindness and generosity

In a first for Durban's bustling Florida Road, the local square was tranformed into a place of calm and prayer as community members came together for an interfaith Iftar in the Park on Saturday.

THE vibrant Florida Road Square came alive with the spirit of Ramadan as people of all faiths and cultural backgrounds gathered to participate in the first-ever interfaith Iftar in the Park event on Saturday, March 22.

Hosted by Penny Appeal South Africa and supported by the Florida Road Urban Improvement Precinct and local restaurant vendors, this special occasion aimed to promote a culture of unity and foster good relations among community members. As the sun set, the event highlighted the universal theme of togetherness, inviting everyone to experience the breaking of the fast just as Muslims do around the world during the blessed month of Ramadan.

“Ramadan is more than about religion, it’s about culture of kindness and generosity,” said Paruk. This was evidenced as attendees enjoyed delicious food, meaningful conversations, and the chance to connect with one another in a vibrant and inclusive setting. “Events like this remind us that despite our different beliefs and traditions, we are united by our shared humanity and the desire to build a better world together,” added Paruk.
