Domino Foundation relief efforts boosted by generous donation

The good work being done by Domino Foundation's Disaster Response programme has received a major boost from JT Ross Charitable Trust, which recently finished packaging the final 48 of the 800 relief buckets destined for the non-profit organisation.

THE Domino Foundation’s Pack a Relief Bucket initiative has received a major boost in support from the JT Ross Charitable Trust, which recently finished packaging the final 48 of the 800 relief buckets destined for the NPO’s Disaster Response programme.

The JT Ross Property Group, which is based in Stamford Hill, began their relief efforts in September, with staff eagerly lending a helping hand in packing the relief buckets. Sandile Nkomonde, the operations manager, said the trust partnered with The Domino Foundation in this initiative because of the NPO’s track record of caring for and healing society.

He said, “When JT Ross heard about the Relief Bucket initiative, we knew that this was definitely one which aligns with our aim to contribute positively to society. We are committed to a comprehensive Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) strategy and we put a high value on fostering a positive impact on the communities where the JT Ross Charitable Trust operates.”

The relief buckets contain non-perishables to help a family of four for a week and includes maize, oil, rice, beans, and tinned foods. Domino adds hygiene products from another generous donor which manufactures and markets personal care products.

Cathy Whittle, who oversees Domino’s Disaster Response programme, extended the organisation’s gratitude towards JT Ross for the generous donation. She said this was a major contribution to the programme’s readiness to meet contingencies. “KZN has had more than its fair share of major emergencies over the past few years and we need to be prepared for any further big emergencies. But, we also have to meet the needs of families and individuals in our communities who suddenly find themselves in dire need through no fault of their own,” said Whittle.

Through several of its seven programmes, Domino is alerted to people experiencing hardship, and responds by providing aid. “It may be the family of one of the children benefitting from our early childhood programme or in our life skills classes, or we may hear of somebody’s distress through one of the groups who partner with us,” said Whittle.

She encouraged individuals and companies to contact the NPO to partner with them in the Pack a Relief Bucket initiative. For more information on the initiative and how you can help, email: nhello@domino.org.za.
