DHS shines at SA Schools badminton tournament
Durban High School has done it again. Their badminton team lifted the trophy in the SA Schools Tournament, making the winning streak a back-to-back victory after they won last year.
IT’S a back-to-back win for Durban High School as they retained their champion status at a recent national tournament in Durban.
“Our DHS badminton teams took part in the SA Schools Tournament this past week, with high expectations on their shoulders as defending champions in both the team and doubles events — and they delivered,” gushed Charles Moodley, the master in charge of badminton.
He added, “Our A team rose to the occasion, emerging group winners, defeating Hillcrest 3-2 in the semi-final, and dominating Westville 3-0 in the final to retain their championship title.”

Team members responsible for the win were Shaun Southwood, Erin Benton, Lincoln Wilson, Tobias Sheehama, and Immanuel Ndudzo, under the coaching of Dawie Hattingh and assistant coach Sherav Maharaj.
In addition to their team victory, the players made waves in the individual singles and doubles championships. In the singles category, Sheehama took first position, followed by Lincoln Wilson as a runner-up. The doubles champions were Sheehama and Wilson.
“Our DHS B team was placed third in their group and finished sixth overall, while our DHS C team was placed fifth in their group and 10th overall. A fantastic effort from all our players. We’re proud of every single one of the players.
“We’re incredibly proud to share that DHS, along with the Alberton Girls A team (Girls Winners), have been invited to represent South Africa at the All-African Schools Championship in Ghana this August,” concluded Moodley.
