Business break-in foiled in Morningside

Marshall Security has praised the quick response of the Morningside community who raised the alarm on an attempted break-in at a business premises in the area. Their alert led to rapid-response patrols in preventing more serious damage, said Tyron Powell of Marshall Security.

A SEARCH is underway for two attempted robbery suspects after their alleged accomplice was apprehended at a business premises in Morningside in the early hours of this morning.

According to Marshall Security, the alarm was raised around 00:35 in a message posted on a WhatsApp Crime Alert group. Tyron Powell from Marshall Security said the message reported a business break-in in progress at a business premises on Woodford Grove in the Morningside area.

He said the property is guarded by the company, and they responded to the scene. “Upon arrival, officers observed three suspects fleeing the property. A pursuit ensued, and one suspect was apprehended and found in possession of house break-in implements.

“Shortly thereafter the business owner arrived. An inspection revealed that while the suspects had not gained entry to the building itself, they had damaged an external security beam and stripped one of the air-conditioning units,” said Powell.

Durban Central SAPS responded to the scene. “A formal case was opened, and the suspect was taken into custody for further investigation and processing. Despite an extensive search, the remaining two suspects unfortunately managed to evade arrest,” said Powell.
