Cannabis, drugs equipment laboratory dismantled near Morningside

A suspect is expected to appear in court today, following a discovery of indoor cannabis plants, ecstasy tablets, crack cocaine, chemicals and equipment near Morningside. He faces charges of dealing in drugs and cannabis.

YESTERDAY (Thursday), Hawks members from Port Shepstone Serious Organised Crime Investigation, in collaboration with the Durban Metro Police Drug Team, Durban Metro Police K9 unit, Durban Flying Squad, and eThekwini Infrastructure Task Team, arrested a 43-year-old suspect for dealing in drugs.

SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Simphiwe Mhlongo shared, “Police received information about a laboratory that was cultivating cannabis plants near Morningside, Durban. A swift and disruptive operation was conducted, and they proceeded to the designated building. A search was conducted and during the search police found indoor cannabis plants, ecstasy tablets, crack cocaine, chemicals and equipment to the street value of approximately R350 000.”

He added that the suspect was arrested and charged with dealing in drugs as well as cannabis. “He is expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court today (Friday).

The KwaZulu-Natal Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Provincial Head, Major General Lesetja Senona, welcomed the arrest and applauded the members for the good work.
