Local filmmaker celebrated at international festival for inclusive storytelling
The Power24 International Film Festival is breaking boundaries in film and television by championing inclusivity in film and TV. With over 26 awards handed out and creatives from six continents in attendance, this African-led festival is reshaping cinema through representation and resilience.
DURBAN filmmaker Thando Mseleku was among a prestigious group of creatives recognised at the second annual Power24 International Film Festival (Power24IFF) – Africa’s first film festival dedicated to promoting vulnerable voices and disability inclusion through cinema.
Held over three days at the Southern Sun Garden Court recently, the red-carpet event drew filmmakers and directors from around the world, including the USA, Brazil, Egypt, Namibia, Madagascar, Russia, and South Africa. Mseleku, known for his work under the banner of Thando Comedy, was awarded for his film Ikhansela, which was celebrated for its contribution to inclusive storytelling.
“These awards are more than accolades – they are recognition of resilience, inclusivity, and creative excellence,” said festival director Dr Samukele Khumalo-Dludla. “Power24 is proud to honour filmmakers who are rewriting the narrative for Africa and beyond.”
