Meyrick Bennett Park refreshed, refurbished
Glenwood’s Meyrick Bennett Park has received a vibrant makeover, bringing fresh life to this beloved community space.
GLENWOOD’S Meyrick Bennett Park, next to St Augustine’s Hospital, has been refreshed and refurbished with a much-needed cosmetic rejuvenation.
Broken benches and bin lids have been repaired, and the playground equipment has been completely refurbished, bringing fresh energy and colour to this beloved community space.
Where possible, the Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP) prioritises repairing equipment rather than replacing it, helping them maintain the park sustainably while keeping facilities comfortable and functional for all park visitors.
“These improvements ensure the park remains a clean, welcoming space for the community to enjoy, and on Friday evenings, you will see 20 Glenwoodians and their dogs take ownership of the park with a weekly meet-up. This fun and lively event has become as much a treat as enjoying the dappled shade provided by the park’s majestic trees,” UIP Park Champion Bev Campbell shared.

“Meyrick Bennett Park has always been a place where people come to unwind, connect, and feel part of something bigger than themselves. It has always been more than just a green space. It’s the heart of our community. The new playground has brought fresh energy and joy, with families gathering once again to enjoy the outdoors together.
“Seeing people enjoying this space, having picnics in the park, and children laughing and having fun reminds me of why this shared space matters so deeply. It’s proof of what’s possible when we care for and invest in our neighbourhood.
“An added gem is our mural of the Black Sparrowhawk created by well-known artist Giffy. This bird nests in the park annually in the forest cabbage tree, and his mural adds to the beauty of Meyrick Bennett Park,” added Campbell.

Bev’s husband Craig is passionate about trees and had tags with QR codes made for identification – just scan with your phone to learn while you linger.
Pigeon Valley UIP invites everyone to be their eyes and ears. “If you notice any damaged equipment or maintenance issues while enjoying the nine parks in the precinct, please let the UIP office know by calling 031 205 1269 or emailing [email protected]. Your reports help them stay informed so they can take action and keep these shared spaces safe and pleasant for everyone.”
