Unstoppable Classic lift trophy and march into Champ of Champs
The champions of the Cato Manor Local League wrapped up their season in style and now set their sights on the Champ of Champs.
AFTER a gruelling season spanning 26 games in Division One of the Cato Manor Local League (CMLL), Umkhumbane Classic FC lifted the trophy on Sunday after being crowned league champions.
Classic, who topped the log with 56 points, had one final hurdle to clear when they faced Bonela United in their last match of the season at the Cato Manor Sports Grounds. Regardless of the outcome, Classic had already secured the title, with second-place Amabhubesi FC finishing on 51 points after 26 games.
The first half against third-placed Bonela United ended goalless, with both teams showing determination and refusing to concede.

Following determined half-time team talks, both sides returned with renewed energy and intent. Classic’s Wandile Makhathini opened the scoring for coach Jabulani Zuke’s side.

Zuke was full of praise for his team. “We haven’t conceded a goal in eight games,” he said. “We finished on top of the summit. It was a well deserved win for our youngsters who delivered throughout the season. I’m very proud of the team.”

With the championship secured and the season wrapped up, Classic will head to the Champ of Champs next Saturday, December 13, at Berea Rovers, where they will test their skills against other league winners under the Durban Central Local Football Association.
