Suspected school robbers arrested in Durban CBD

Three suspects who are allegedly linked to business and house robberies in and around eThekwini were arrested by Durban Central police officers in the CBD on Thursday.

FIREARMS, ammunition and suspected stolen goods were recovered by police during a crime prevention operation on Dr Pixley KaSeme Street on Thursday (December 11).

This led to the arrest of three suspects, after they were linked to a string of robberies.

SAPS spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda  confirmed the incident.

“Police were conducting crime prevention operation along Dr Pixley KaSeme Street when they received intelligence about a vehicle whose occupants were allegedly robbing people of their belongings.

“The vehicle matching the description was intercepted and during the subsequent search, the three occupants of the vehicle were found in possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, laptops and cellphones suspected to be stolen,” Netshiunda said.

Netshiunda added, “Preliminary investigations linked the suspects to the robbery of laptops and cellphones at a school in KwaMashu, the robbery of a teacher at a school in Ntuzuma, as well as a house robbery in KwaMakhutha.”

The suspects are reportedly aged between 18 and 23 years old, and will appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday, December 15.
