YESTERDAY (January 1) the SAPS Provincial Commissioner, Lt-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, together with the KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli, took to the beachfront, interacted with visitors and monitored the outcomes of the festive season campaign launched in October.
On the buzzing beachfront, Mkhwanazi pointed out the issue of crime in the Point area, adding that there had been numerous cases where Point SAPS officers were arrested and charged for their involvement in criminal activities.
“We are grateful to the community of Point, private security and all community structures who work with police to report and prevent crime in this area.

“The Point and South Beach area have seen a stubborn incline in drugs and prostitution cases.
“We urge you to be our eyes and ears. If a crime involving police officers is suspected, record and contact the police, and we will investigate,” Mkhwanazi said.
He revealed that crime numbers have declined, however “the operation continues, until one day we achieve a zero crime rate”.

During his engagements, the premier reassured holidaymakers that their safety remained the utmost priority for all law enforcement agencies.
