7 house robbery suspects appear in Durban Court

The suspects aged 17 to 20 have appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court following their arrest for house robbery.

SEVEN house robbery suspects aged between 17 and 20 appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, and were remanded back in custody.

SAPS Durban Central spokesperson Sergeant Zanele Khomo said, “On Monday (January 5) at about 19:00, the suspects were spotted on Park Street driving in a white vehicle. Members intercepted the said vehicle and searched the seven male occupants. Upon searching the vehicle one occupant was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm with serial number filed off, with nine live rounds of ammunition. Other occupants were found with various items, including cellphones and laptops.

“The seven suspects were arrested and detained possession of unlicensed firearm, ammunition and property suspected to be stolen. Further investigation led to a second firearm recovered from one of the suspects’ homestead in Inanda area. The suspects were positively linked to a house robbery that occurred in Mariannhill area whereby a victim was shot, and was traced to a local hospital where he positively identified the suspects.

The suspects will be back in court in due course for formal bail application.
