Hard work pays off for Open Air and Holy Family matrics

Slindokuhle Nxumalo of Open Air School is the top learner in the Special School category with three distinctions and an aggregate of 81%.

IN an impressive year for KwaZulu-Natal which saw the province sitting in top position for both the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) and the National Senior Certificate (NSC) standings, the Class of 2025 at Open Air School and Holy Family College are celebrating their 100% pass rate which contributed to the incredible milestone.

Open Air School, which had 19 matric candidates, also saw one of their learners, Slindokuhle Nxumalo, being recognised as a top learner in the Special School category after bagging three distinctions, with an aggregate of 81%.

“The quality of our passes are outstanding and surpassed our expectations. From the 19 candidates, 18 of them matriculated with a bachelor pass and one learner with a diploma pass,” said the school management.

Not to be outdone, the Class of 2025 at Holy Family College also surpassed expectation. Deputy Principal Stephen Sutherland said the 150-year-old school completed the year in style, “with a well-deserved 100% pass rate”.

“The hard work has paid off and the learners and educators are proud of their efforts. They showed up, pushed through challenges, and proved what commitment can achieve,” said Sutherland.

“Thank you to the teachers, parents, and mentors who supported these learners every step of the way and look forward to another successful year in 2026.”
