Volunteers sought for Denis Hurley Centre

The Denis Hurley Centre is in need of volunteers and is calling upon residents to offer their services once-off, once a month or more frequently.

THE need for volunteers at the Denis Hurley Centre (DHC) is still alive, despite the busiest time of the year having passed. The management of the centre says they really require extra hands.

“We are very grateful to the many people who came to volunteer over the festive season, which meant that we served meals on all our usual days.  Christmas may be over, but the need for volunteers is not. We will continue to serve on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year,  and need volunteers on those days,  either for 08:00-10:00 or 11:00-13:00 or both,” shared DHC director Raymond Perrier.

He added that they were keen to welcome individuals and families, school learners aged 15 and above, tertiary students, groups of up to 10 people from corporates, places of worship, book clubs, and coffee circles, and larger school groups.

“We are also looking for two regular volunteers to help with admin, one for our empowerment project and one in our clinic. This would entail making a once-a-week commitment of a block of time that suits both parties. And we are always keen to hear from medical practitioners interested in volunteering their expertise,” Perrier said.
