Sherwood teacher makes waves with 12th Midmar Mile finish
Sherwood Primary's Shalani Naidu has earned her 10-year badge after completing her 12th Midmar Mile, and she's already setting her sights on the 20-year milestone.
SHERWOOD Primary School is celebrating the achievements of educator Shalani Naidu who has been awarded her 10-year Midmar Mile badge after completing her 12th Midmar Mile at the weekend.
The Grade Six educator, who completed her first Midmar Mile at age 10 in just over an hour, swam the open water challenge in 40 minutes this year. Her personal best is 30 minutes.
“The iconic Midmar Mile is a true test of endurance, requiring physical strength, mental resilience, and determination, qualities Miss Naidu embodies both in her teaching and in her personal achievements,” said the school management.

Reflecting on her journey, she said that “each swim brings new challenges, from early-morning starts to unpredictable waters, but the sense of accomplishment at the finish line makes it all worthwhile”.
With 12 Midmar Miles completed, she is only eight swims away from the prestigious 20-year badge, a goal she continues to pursue with dedication and passion. Not one to rest on her laurels, Naidu recently completed her first open-water beach swim, the Dolphin Mile, proving that her passion for swimming continues to grow.
“Her achievements inspire learners at Sherwood Primary, showing the power of setting goals, staying disciplined, and believing in oneself,” said management.
