Fatal shooting rocks Durban city centre

A man believed to be in his 30s was shot and killed on Dr Yusuf Dadoo Street in the Durban CBD, with police investigating the incident.

A MAN believed to be in his 30s has been gunned down in the Durban CBD this afternoon (February 19), bringing the busy city centre to a temporary standstill.

According to Ensure Security, the victim was shot at about 16:00 on Dr Yusuf Dadoo Street (Grey Street). Spokesperson for Ensure Security Kyle van Reenen said their Tactical Intervention Unit responded immediately after being alerted to the shooting incident.

He said on arrival at the scene, officers found a male believed to be about 35 years old lying supine on the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds.

“He displayed no signs of life and was declared deceased on scene,” said Van Reenen. “The circumstances surrounding the incident and the events leading up to it remain unclear and will form the subject of a South African Police Service investigation.”

The police had yet to comment at the time of publishing.
