N2 south bound remains closed to traffic following CIT robbery

The N2 southbound near the NPC Cement Factory remains closed after a cash-in-transit heist left two security officers seriously wounded.

THE N2 south bound near the NPC Cement Factory remains closed to traffic following a cash-in-transit (CIT) heist that left one security officer fighting for his life and the other seriously wounded in the early hours of this morning.

According to ALS Paramedics they were alerted to the incident just after 05:30. ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said the N2 is closed from the M7 Edwin Swales off-ramp.

“It will remain closed for some time to allow investigations to continue. I would advise all motorists to avoid this area at all costs,” said Jamieson.

This was also confirmed by Durban Metro Police Service which advised motorists to stay clear of the scene. “The road is currently closed while law enforcement agencies attend to the incident. Please use alternative routes,” said Metro Police.

“One of the guards had sustained critical injuries and immediately the Netcare911 helicopter was activated to assist in rapidly transporting the man to a nearby hospital for the urgent care that he required,” said Jamieson.

“The second security official had sustained serious injuries and was stabilised on the scene by Advanced Life Support Paramedics before being transported to a nearby hospital for the further care that he required.”
