Suspected drug dealer arrested during Moore Road clean-up

While another clean-up was underway at the notorious Moore Road, an arrest of a suspected drug dealer was made by Durban Metro officers.

On Friday, members of the Durban Metro Police Service, working together with Durban Solid Waste and the Fire Department, conducted another clean-up operation on Che Guevara Road (Moore Road).

“Officers made a significant breakthrough with the arrest of a suspected drug dealer operating within the informal settlement that had developed in the area,” said Durban Metro spokesperson Colonel Boysie Zungu.

He added, “During the operation, members conducted searches within the settlement structures and surrounding areas. A female suspect was arrested after officers discovered Mandrax tablets and heroin in her possession, along with R6723 in cash, mostly consisting of coins believed to be proceeds from illegal drug sales.”

Additional items  reportedly linked to drug use and distribution, including syringes, safe cookers, saline washers and alcohol swabs, were also seized during the arrest.

The suspect was subsequently detained at SAPS Umbilo Station, and charged with drug possession and dealing in drugs.

Authorities have since cleared the area and restored normal traffic flow, while law enforcement promised to continue monitoring the location to prevent criminal elements from operating.
