Stella Park’s rising bowls star shines at nationals for Port Natal
Stella Park’s young star Miah Ertekes is already making waves, showing leadership and composure beyond her years.
STELLA Park Bowling Club is celebrating their young rising star Miah Vera-Rose Ertekes who shone bright on the green while representing Port Natal at the U15 Junior National Bowls Tournament in Bloemfontein over the holidays.
Although school excludes her from participation in the BSA Women’s Open, at just 11 years old Ertekes is already turning heads in the bowls world. “For someone so young, her composure, confidence and love for the game sets her apart as a truly exciting talent for the future,” said Stella Park Bowling Club.
Ertekes, who is part of a formidable U15 Port Natal team, began her bowls journey at four years old, inspired by her grandfather Mike Look. “From those early days on the green, it was clear she had both a natural feel for the game and a passion that continues to grow stronger with every game she plays,” said club management.

“Being chosen as skip at such a young age is no small feat, but she embraces the responsibility with maturity beyond her years.”

Despite this, she thrives in the leadership role, focusing on what matters most, supporting her teammates and communicating clearly. “It’s a lot of fun,” said Ertekes. “But sometimes it can be difficult to take on that responsibility. If I don’t keep control, the team will fall apart.”
The club said her strong mindset is what makes Ertekes such a strong leader. “Her playing style is calm and thoughtful. She takes time to read the head before delivering her bowl with confidence, a habit many seasoned players would admire,” said club management.

“It’s clear she relishes the challenge when the stakes are high. One of her proudest moments came when her team was four down, and she delivered a game-turning bowl to knock out the opposition’s shot and win the end, a glimpse of the clutch performances she is already capable of.”
With her love for the sport firmly rooted, Ertekes said her long-term goal is to progress into the U18 side and, ultimately, to represent South Africa one day.
