UKZN orders Law exam rewrite after paper leak
A confirmed examination paper leak has triggered an independent investigation, with affected students set to rewrite exams as the university tightens security.
AN investigation is underway following the confirmed leak of several examination papers in the School of Law at UKZN.
UKZN spokesperson Normah Zondo said the institution has commissioned an independent external forensic investigation to determine the source, nature and extent of the incident.
“The investigation will establish the facts surrounding the incident and identify any individuals who may have been involved. Appropriate disciplinary, civil and, where applicable, criminal action will be pursued against those found responsible,” said Zondo.
She said while the investigation is underway, UKZN has resolved that the affected examinations will be rewritten to safeguard the integrity of its assessment processes and the credibility of its qualifications.

“The University acknowledges the inconvenience this decision may cause to students who were not involved in the incident.
“However, maintaining the integrity and fairness of the assessment process is fundamental to protecting the value of UKZN qualifications and ensuring confidence among students, employers, professional bodies and the broader public,” said Zondo.
To minimise academic disruption, the School of Law will implement appropriate academic support measures, including a catch-up plan, to assist affected students in meeting Semester Two academic requirements. The University has also implemented additional measures to strengthen examination security and safeguard the integrity of the special examinations.
“The University remains committed to resolving this matter as swiftly and fairly as possible while upholding the highest standards of academic integrity, accountability and institutional governance,” said Zondo.
