Penzance Primary invites community heroes to inspire learners

From firefighters to paramedics, Penzance Primary wants local heroes to showcase their work this September.

Penzance Primary School is calling on emergency services personnel and community heroes to help inspire its learners by taking part in its annual Heroes Day on Friday, September 4.

The event, which will be held from 09:00 to 11:00 at the Glenwood school, will welcome learners from Grade 000 to Grade Seven for a morning of interactive displays and demonstrations. Additional displays and interactions will continue from 11:00 onwards.

Grade Six educator and organiser Catherine Stevens said the school is inviting members of the emergency services and other local heroes to showcase the important work they do.

“We are hoping to provide our learners with an engaging and memorable experience through live, interactive demonstrations on the school field,” said Stevens.

In addition to celebrating community heroes, the school will host a charity drive in support of St Martin’s Children’s Home and collect food donations for various animal shelters.

With around 1 000 learners enrolled at the school, visits to the displays will be staggered. Pre-school and junior primary learners will attend between 09:00 and 10:00, followed by senior primary learners from 10:00 to 11:00.

Stevens encouraged participants to bring along equipment, vehicles, banners, uniforms or any other items that would enhance the experience for learners. “We would like to set up stands where learners can interact with representatives, ask questions and learn more about the important work they do,” she said.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our learners to meet real-life heroes, gain insight into different services and engage with those who make a positive difference in our community.”
