Feel Good Friday – R40 goes a long way
A Durban Metro police officer is enjoying endless praise on social media after her selfless act.
Some hail her as a Good Samaritan; others warn her to be wary of dodgy motorists.
Mduduzi Gwabin took to social media recently to convey his gratitude to a Durban Metro Police officer who came to his rescue when he realised that he had no cash to pay for tollgates during a journey from Durban CBD to Stanger.
Sergeant Sbongile ‘Boh’ Chamane was a much-needed hand.
Gwabin shared, “I would like to thank the arm of the law. I was driving out of the CBD towards Stanger. I did not have money for tollgates. I asked one taxi driver by the robots; he laughed his lungs out, and later declined. I proceeded to the next robots and asked another taxi driver, and he said he didn’t have R20 for me.
“I drove for about 200m, and I spotted a Durban Metro police car with two male officers and one female,” Gwabin narrated.
He continued, “I asked for money to pay tollgates. At first they laughed at me, and they all said they didn’t have cash with them. Throughout the conversation, the female officer realised how desperate I was. As I was walking away, she called me back. Out of her humanity, and from her hard-earned money, she made a R40 Cash Send transaction for me.”
Gwabin said he then proceeded to the nearest ATM and withdrew the cash. “Let us share Ubuntu if you can,” he added.
Over 500 comments and hundreds of shares hit Gwabin’s post. The Durban Metro Police page also shared the story.
Colonel Boysie Zungu, DMPS spokesperson shared, “Small acts of kindness can make a big difference in someone’s day. This selfless gesture reflects the values of integrity, care, and professionalism that the Durban Metro Police Service strives to uphold.
“We encourage all our members and the public to remember that kindness costs nothing but can mean everything to someone in need.”
“We thank the arm of the law. Her maternal instincts kicked in and she helped this guy,” Thami Makhanya commented on social media.
Sanele Mchunu shared, “May God keep you, and your territory be expanded,” while others said they wished Chamane would get a better job.
