Novice bodybuilder scoops grand title
The first-timer won the following titles; Men's Physique 177cm, Mr Fitness Model, Overall Men's Physique Champion, and he has qualified to represent KwaZulu-Natal in the All Africa Cup which will be held in Pretoria on September 24.
AFTER taking part in his first International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IBFF) KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Show in Kingsburgh on September 3, bodybuilding novice Yeskiel Naraindath wowed the judges and walked away with a list of impressive titles and a qualifying spot in the national competition.
Naraindath says he knew he would be the smallest competitor in the competition so he fixed his mind on giving it his best but says his achievements still exceeded his expectations. “I had no idea I could push my body to achieve the ultimate physique I had on show-day. I was able to achieve a body-fat percentage of approximately 2-3 percent and achieved excellent muscle definition,” said Naraindath.
Naraindath says he didn’t have nerves on the day because he knew he had put 110% effort into his training. “I came to the competition knowing I had worked hard and made a lot of sacrifices to achieve my physique on show-day. So I went on stage and had fun, trusting in the dedication I had put into the preparation process.”

The first-timer won the following titles; Men’s Physique 177cm, Mr Fitness Model, Overall Men’s Physique Champion, and he has qualified to represent KwaZulu-Natal in the All Africa Cup which will be held in Pretoria on September 24.

“It was a dream come true for me and the best birthday gift I could’ve asked for since I chose to do this competition because I wanted to be in the best shape of my life when turning 30. I turned 30 on September 2, and the show was the next day, and winning in my two divisions and then taking home the Overall Men’s Physique Champion title was so overwhelming and truly a blessing,” he said.
Naraindath says he received a ton of support from family, friends and his coach, Deleene Matthews, who were all present at the competition.
“In no particular order, I would like to thank Deleene Matthews for seeing the potential in me, assisting me with my posing, dietary protocols and always going out of her way to ensure that I was putting in my best effort. I would also like to thank my wife, Kajal Naraindath, for assisting me with late-night meal preparations, muscle massages and ensuring that everything went as smoothly as possible throughout this journey,” he said.

Naraindath says he hopes to one day obtain his professional bodybuilder card in his categories and to one day represent South Africa in international competitions.
His advice to those hoping to get into the sport: “Be consistent with your training, your diet and listen to your body – take time to rest. If you have a coach, trust the process, and most of all, enjoy the journey.”
