KZN Blind and Deaf Society team up with the City for White Cane Rally

The White Cane Safety Rally was to raise awareness of the meaning of the white cane and to promote special consideration for the blind and those who carry the white cane in public places.

TO increase public awareness of the importance of the white cane for the safe movement and independence of people living with visual impairments, KZN Blind and Deaf Society, in association with the eThekwini Municipality’s Vulnerable Groups Office, hosted a White Cane Safety Rally on Saturday, October 15.

The white cane is a tool used by the blind for independent navigation. It is also used by individuals who may have a small amount of vision remaining to get to work and school, and to shop and travel.
