SAPS on manhunt for rape suspects

Police are searching for suspects involved in two separate rape cases involving victims aged 15 and 22.

POLICE are on a manhunt for two rape suspects following incidents in Durban’s South Beach area.

Detectives from the Durban Central Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit are appealing to the community to come forward with information to assist in solving this case.

According to the spokesperson for Durban Central SAPS, Captain Muzi Maphumulo, a 22-year-old victim was assaulted when she called an e-hailing taxi to pick her up in Durban’s Point area on October 15 at 03:00.

“It is alleged by the complainant that on their way, the driver held the victim at knifepoint and instructed her not to scream. He then raped her near a Durban Central mall. The driver fled in a vehicle with an unknown registration,” said Maphumulo.

In another incident on August 3, a 15-year-old victim was walking with her friend from school when they were approached by an unknown quantum.

“The driver asked to talk to the victim, and she asked her friend to accompany her. Both learners jumped inside the taxi, which had two occupants, and the third taxi occupant was standing outside. As soon as they jumped inside the taxi, the third occupant joined them. The victim was given a glass of alcohol to drink by the passenger who started to touch her while the driver was playing music. The passenger then raped the victim,” said Mapumulo.

Police believe that the men pictured can be of assistance in solving both cases.
